watt marshal is an independent Texas company with one product: a report on the fixed-rate electricity plans we can price in your area, ranked within each contract length on your own twelve months of usage. We sell that report to households. We take nothing from providers — no commissions, no placement fees, no referral money. If that ever changed, this page would say so before the ranking did.
Why we exist
Every electricity plan sold in Texas comes with an Electricity Facts Label: one page, required by the state, setting out what the plan actually charges. It is the binding document — whatever a website says about a plan, the label is what you are agreeing to.
It is also genuinely hard to read. The price at the top is an average, worked out at fixed levels of usage that are unlikely to match yours. The things that decide your bill sit further down: a credit that only pays if your usage crosses a line, a rate that changes on either side of one, a fixed monthly charge that weighs more in a mild month than a hot one, a discount that quietly assumes you signed up for autopay. Two labels can look almost the same at the top and land hundreds of dollars apart over a year.
So working out which plan costs your home the least is not a matter of judgement. It is reading all of that on every label offered where you live, then applying each one to twelve months of your own usage, month by month — because month by month is where the differences appear, and a yearly average is where they hide. It is arithmetic, and there is a lot of it. Nobody should have to do it by hand, so we built the thing that does.
How we make money
You pay us once for the report. That is the only money that enters the company. Comparison sites are usually free because a provider pays them when you sign up — which means the site's ranking has a customer other than you. Ours doesn't. The fee is the point: it's what lets the ranking answer to nobody else.
How we work
Every figure in a report traces back to a document — the plan's own Electricity Facts Label and the utility's filed tariff, with the date we read them. We price each plan on your months, check the result against the provider's own published table, and set aside anything we can't stand behind. When a plan's cost can't be pinned down, we leave it out and say so rather than guess. Your report shows the math, not just the answer.
Who we are
A small, independent team in Texas. We're not a provider, we're not a broker's marketing arm, and we don't run a call center. We don't read every label by hand, either — software we built does that, and we check its work against the provider's own numbers before anything reaches you.

watt marshal was started in 2026 by Evan Wakefield, an electrical engineer by trade, who wanted a straight answer to a simple question — which plan actually costs the least for this house — and found that nobody selling one was paid by the person asking.
